The Work-In-Progress Screenplay Reading

Come out and enjoy a staged, dramatized reading of FOUR brand new, work-in-progress film scripts by local Houston screenwriters. Each excerpt will run about 15 minutes and will feature professional actors bringing each script to life for the first time. We hope to use the reading to let our community in our process and give them a chance to chime in on what’s working and what could be improved.

Snacks and beverages will be provided!

BORN WITH IT (Feature Film Excerpt) by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour, Jr.

Based on the award-winning short film of the same name, this feature film adaptation chronicles the romance between a Japanese woman and an African exchange student and the societal pressure that threatens to tear them apart.

In 1950’s Little Italy, a wild teenage girl and her sociopathic cousin try to outfox their strict Sicilian family to have ‘normal’ teenage adventures… but they end up entangling themselves in absurd criminal activity along the way.

BENRIYA (Television Pilot Excerpt) by Jenny Waldo

In a world where humanity has achieved equality, sustainability, and peace in exchange for freedom, people have grown increasingly isolated and dependent on the men and women willing to perform all the things they’re too afraid to do from taking out the trash to having a best friend for the night, the Benriya. As we follow one dedicated Ben, he discovers that the world he services is not as perfect as it seems.
