Houston Saengerbund Spring Concert / Fruehlingskonzert

Spring Concert – FruSpring Concert – Fruehlingskonzert Houston Saengerbund

Ahh..Spring. Are you longing for a splash of color after the winter? Some cheerful music to brighten your day? In Houston we enjoy the blooming of the azaleas, the start of spring sports, and the last few days of sub-eighty-degree temperatures. The coats and jackets are soon replaced by tank tops and flip flops, and the freeways increase their population of convertibles. It’s the time of year when a young person’s thoughts turns to love.

In the spirit of this wonderful time of year, the Houston Saengerbund, our city’s oldest continuously operating musical organization, will celebrate Spring with its annual Frühlingskonzert on April 21 at 7:30 p.m.   Choral selections include  ‘Die Himmel erzaehlen’ from ‘Die Schoepfung’ by Hayden, folk music about the alpine region of Germany and Austria, ‘Am Brunnen vor dem Tore’ , where a Linden tree gives peace and calm, songs about the City of Vienna and even their fondness of gossip, and Hassler’s ‘O Sacred Head Now Wounded’. A lively Polka and many more round out the evening.

Let the Houston Saengerbund Damenchor  and Maennerchor  bring you a bouquet of music. The program will conclude with a tribute to Stephen Sondheim in honor of the composer’s ninetieth birthday in March.  You are invited to a reception following. The concert will take place at First Lutheran Church, 1311 Holman, Houston, TX 77004.

Admission is free but reservation of seats is encouraged to secure your seat at houstonsaengerbund.org
