RE:VIEW: An Allegory of Women
“RE:VIEW: An Allegory of Women,” featuring new original works by Houston native New York City-based artist and curator Ricardo Osmondo Francis, opens at the Community Artists’ Collective.
Inspired by Classical art, multi-ethnic antiquity, and present-day advertisement imagery Francis’ vivid pictorial works present a torrent of imagery culled from every possible corner of the visual culture. His lush, elaborately graphic surrealistic paintings and drawings often depict the social constructs of humanity and the complexity of our existence through striking introspective, portraiture, still life, and abstract compositions. In this show, Francis explores the theme of women as a subject of contemplation. This current series further shows the artist’s stylistic vocabulary deepening and developing in an unlikely way.
Francis, who honed his artistic talents in the Third Ward and at the Community Artists’ Collective and Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, is currently director of LeonidesArts NY, an artist-run multi-media visual arts organization dedicated to presenting contemporary art exhibitions and/or public art projects that reflect a variety of distinct themes, disciplines and cultural experiences outside of the conventional art gallery tenet.
The exhibition runs through Saturday, September 29th. For more information contact The Collective at 713-523-1616 or visit www.thecollective.org.
