30th Annual Día de los Muertos: Musical and Literary Ofrenda
Lawndale Art Center is pleased to present its 30th Annual Día de los Muertos events October 27th – November 2nd, 2017, a celebration of the art, music and folklife of Mexico.
ROCO celebrates the Mexican “Day of the Dead” with the annual Musical & Literary Ofrenda at Lawndale Art Center Monday, October 30th.
A five-way collaboration between ROCO, Lawndale, Inprint, Musiqa, and the Houston Hispanic Forum, this year’s performance also features the premiere of five original, three-minute musical “ofrendas” (offerings) by Houston composer Marcus Maroney, which are woven amongst four original prose and poetry texts by Inprint authors.
Additionally, Houston-based baritone, Timothy Jones, joins a trio of ROCO musicians performing on oboe, viola, and cello.
The performance takes place against a backdrop of “retablos” (paintings and illustrations representing the Day of the Dead), and is followed by refreshments and a beginner Spanish lesson through Español y arte.
