Hands-On Houston: Magnificent Masks
Houston Center for Contemporary Craft presents Hands-On Houston: Magnificent Masks. Join HCCC as we create weird and wonderful masks, inspired by our current exhibition, Head Gear.
Masks are a way to explore different identities and transport ourselves to unfamiliar, wild places. Use your imagination, and transform yourself into a bird, a beast, or other fantastic creature using cardboard and paint. Discover the many meanings of masks in different cultures and their importance in connecting our present with the past.
Note: Please allow 25 minutes to complete this activity. The activity will take place outdoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.
Hands-On Houston is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month, as a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11am and 3pm and participate in a 15 – 20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft.
