Hands-On Houston: Conservation Critter Brooches

Learn about reuse, and transform old pieces of plastic into a fantastical critter of your own design. By adding a pin back, you can wear and show off your upcycled critter!

Before you start your project, explore Calder Kamin’s works in the current exhibition, Nothing Goes to Waste, and learn how artists are salvaging old or used materials by finding new uses for them!

Note: This activity will take place outside, weather permitting, and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. The event is subject to change or cancellation in response to current COVID-19 conditions. All participants must wear a mask when inside the building and practice social distancing during the event.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15 – 20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft. Learn more here.

Hands-on Houston is generously supported by Strake Foundation.
