‘Performing Asia’: Traditional and Contemporary Music From China and Taiwan
Performing Asia presents traditional and newly-composed music from China and Taiwan by composers Shih-Hui Chen, Chen Yi, Hwang-Long Pan, and Xu Shuya. This lively and moving cross-cultural collaboration features musicians from the Houston Symphony and the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, with special guest performances from Taiwanese musicians Hui-Kuan Lin and Lung-Yi Huang on the pipa and sheng.
This concert is presented as part of Houston Symphony’s Songs of the Earth Festival, a two-week festival highlighting classical music’s most unforgettable and immersive experiences, including soul-stirring meditations on life and death, haunting concertos, and exploring conversations between composers in Europe and Asia in classical music during the 20th and 21st centuries.
